We are a team of deaf volunteers who have come together to collect and share with you stories, photos, videos and memorabilia linking to Jewish Deaf History (London).
We each have some form of connection with the Jewish Deaf Community in the London area which is what this website is dedicated to. From this you will find the history of RSJDC (Residential School for Jewish Deaf Children), JDA (Jewish Deaf Association), WOJD (World Organisation of Jewish Deaf) and Jewish Deaf Sports.
RSJDC was 100 years old at the time the school closed down. Founded in 1865 and closed down in 1965. As the number of ex pupils passed away, we felt it was time to treasure all old photographs, videos and memorabilia and share these with the community as a long lasting legacy thanks to Harold Fallman for his generous donation in making this website possible.
Alongside this, the Jewish Deaf Association (JDA) events and activities where a majority of RSJDC ex pupils were an active part of. The JDA celebrates over 70 years since they became established in 1951.
This website relies on you! If you have any stories, photos, videos or memorabilia please do let us know as we would love to hear and see what you have.
If you would like to continue to support the legacy of this website and Jewish Deaf History (London), we welcome donations. Please contact us for more information.
Our current team of committee members are: Barry David, Ann Clements, Mira Goldberg, Linda Woolfe, Carolyn Denmark, Sara Olsen and Daniel Clements. Supported by the help and input of many deaf people in the community.
